Soil compost  
We produce our own compost soil (humus) from kitchen waste mixed with dried leaves and organic waste. Every month, we use at least 100 kg of compost soil produced for our garden and landscaping.

Tsunami boat  
After the 2004 tsunami disaster many fishing boats were destroyed. Our staff went to Kuala Triang and retrieved a stranded boat, repaired it and now it operates as the resort’s sunset bar.

Bar stools    
Our bar stools are made from bullock cart harnesses and axles. We also use hardwood from the Pinang tree.

Signs    
All signs and landmarks in our resort are made from recycled timber or tree trunks.

Fruit trees We plant as much fruit trees as possible in our garden so that guests can taste local fruits like mango, dragon fruit, cashew nut, Malaysian cherry, banana, papaya, and lots more.

Organic plants We also plant organic plants; mostly vegetables to reduce kitchen costs.

Herbs plants We have more than 30 species of local herbs with thousands of uses and health benefits.

Separating wastes We practice separating resort waste materials into paper, plastics, aluminum cans, glass and metals.

Nursery We have our own nursery where we barter our own plants with those of another species.

Guest information We promote our green practices to our guests.

Recycled water    
We recycle waters from the kitchen, treat it and use it for watering garden plants.

Recycled tree trunks We use recycled tree trunks for landscaping the resort.

Spa and reflexology Our spa and reflexology treatments use natural herbs and plants from our garden.

Reused slate We reuse broken slate from the resort’s renovation to make walkways.

Natural stones walls We use laterite stone to make walls.

Reused old furniture    
We reused old but serviceable furniture for the staff quarters. Some old items are repaired and sold to staff for very reasonable prices.

Wetland    
We are the only resort in Langkawi to have built its own wetland.

Rain gutters    
We use rain gutters to harvest rainwater for irrigating the gardens.

Recycled door/windows Old doors and windows are reused as they are still in good condition.

Recycled chairs Broken chairs are repaired, furnished and reused.

Water hyacinth We use water hyacinth in the wetland to absorb nutrients from wastewater.

Pets We take care of pets in the resort. We have cats, ducks and geese.

Nature activities We provide nature activities like bird watching.

Recycled pipes Old pipes from the resort’s renovation are used for channeling wastewater into our wetland.

Research We conduct research geology, flora and fauna in collaboration with local universities.

Geosite We have our own geological site with rocks and fossils dating back some 550 million years.

Wildlife We have birds, water monitor lizards and other reptiles living in the natural surroundings of the resort.

School children’s programme We organise schoolchildren programmes for local schools.

Exhibitions We organise exhibitions for the local communities on green practices and environmental awareness.

Non-chemical pesticides We use neem leaves from our herb gardens to make natural pesticide.

Pandan leaves We use pandan leaves for food decorations.

Lemongrass We use lemongrass as our guest welcome drink.

Sustainable education Every week, we have sustainable education classes where we educate our staff about the environment.

Energy conservation We practice energy conservation.

Recycled newspapers We recycle newspaper for making handicrafts.

Cooking oil    
Used cooking oil is sold and the income generated is given to the staff welfare fund.

Mini library    
We have a mini library where books left by our guests are made available to other guests.

Guest involvement We encourage our guests to become involved in our green programme and local festival programme.

Recycled vinegar Vinegar is not used only for cooking, but also used for treating jelly-fish stings.

Old cloth    
Old bed sheet are recycled as cleaning cloths.

Pineapple skins    
We use pineapple skins to neutralise the chlorine in our pond.

Pebble wash We use pebble wash instead of timber for our buildings.

Sewage water treatment We have our sewage water treatment and reused the water for watering our plants.

Local people at Pulau Tuba We organise programmes with our staff to help the local community on Pulau Tuba.

Use bottles as lamps    
Glass bottles are recycled as lamps.

Recycle soap Leftover soap from our guestrooms are recycled as cleaning detergent.

We reuse old bath tubs for compost containers.

Plywood We recycle old plywood from the resort’s renovations as signs.

Floorwood We use floor timber from old buildings as roof trusses.

Toilet bowls We use old toilet bowls as plant containers.

Organic drinks We promote the use of organic drinks from fruit grown in our garden.

Body scrubs We provide body scrubs made from organic-grown fruits.

Furniture from Yogyakarta For all our new rooms, we use furniture purchased from a factory in Yogyakarta, Indonesia that uses recycled timber obtained from houses destroyed during the 2004 earthquake.  This helps the local community there.

ASTRO guide stands Each room has an ASTRO programme stand made from recycled timber.
